To accomplish this objective, we employ a Safety and Health Director who is responsible for coordinating job site evaluations, developing OSHA-compliant programs and conducting training for management and employees.
OUR SAFETY CULTURE:
Safety at Staff Electric goes far beyond specific projects and has become a corporate wide culture. We believe that starts with a fully committed top-down approach to risk and safety. The cornerstone of our safety culture is our extensive daily task pre-planning. Each day, our foremen review the safety task pre-plan with their crew for their assigned tasks. This ensures all hazards are recognized and mitigated prior to starting the day. In addition, our safety department is thoroughly active with the safety pre-planning of various phases of the job. This aids in the identification and control of both routine and unique safety issues. Workers new to the project, both new hires and job transfers, are given a minimum of two safety orientations prior to beginning work. First, a Staff Electric safety policy orientation, followed by a site-specific safety orientation. Our new hire safety orientation stresses the importance of hazard recognition and overall awareness, while the site-specific program is designed to increase their awareness of hazards on the job site.
Training is also a major contributor to our great success in safety. Annually, Staff holds dozens of training classes open to all workers that specialize in safety on the job. We provide training in fields such as NFPA 70E, Aerial Lift Operations, OSHA 10/30, Fall Protection, First Aid/CPR, Confined Space Entry, Scaffolding, Infection Control, and Crane Rigging/Signal. These classes are crucial to sustaining our safety goals and also setting a high standard within our industry. Along with our many training policies, we have an extensive job site inspection program. Not only do we inspect by use of in-house safety staff, but also with risk control professionals and third-party safety consultants. This helps to ensure that our program encompasses all aspects of safety on-site.
