What has been your favorite project to work on?
This would be a project we worked on back in 2012: UW Digestive Health Care. It was the first project that I worked on that I was responsible for meeting with the end users, designing and creating the final project for our field team to install. I learned a lot about the design process and various hospital systems.

Robin D. Cross

Journeyman/ Lead/ Foreman
Team Member since 1979

How has working at Staff Electric helped you in your career development?
I was referred to Staff by Big Step Inc. in the summer of 1979, while looking for a job between semesters at UWM. I’ve spent 39 years at Staff (14 years foreman), which is the longest that any African-American employee has worked for the company. I’m looking to learn even more at Staff and transition into retirement on a high note.

What has been your favorite project to work on?
My favorite site to work on has always been the Froedtert campus. The staff there is cooperative, helpful and professional. The atmosphere was always positive, which carried over to our workers. After spending 25 years working on this project, it’s a good place to be because you ALWAYS learn something.

What is your favorite part about working here?
Our workplace has a very professional approach to problem solving and great communication between workers and supervision. The camaraderie between workers and the daily challenges are some of the things that I enjoy most.

What do you do for fun?
I enjoy building and racing RC cars. Racing slot cars is one of my favorite pastimes. I follow NHRA drag racing closely, along with football and basketball.

Where is your favorite place to eat?
Five O’Clock Steakhouse

What is your hidden talent?
I used to dunk basketballs all the time – the only witness I have to this is Jeff Rechlicz!

Coordinating projects through the sales process, budgeting, estimating, and planning as well as supporting the project managers throughout construction and commissioning. I’ve also been known to barbeque in the office parking lot.

What is your favorite part about working here?
Working with people who don’t take themselves too seriously!

What has been your favorite project to work on?
I have two. The emergency power system upgrades for both Unity Point Meriter Hospital and University of Wisconsin Hospital have allowed me to learn a great deal from some very talented engineers. The teams assembled for both projects have been great to work with.

Where is your favorite place to eat?
It’s a tie between Harvest and the Tornado Steak House. With no shortage of restaurants in Madison, my favorite changes with the seasons.

What TV show or movie are you ashamed to admit you love?
Dumb & Dumber. I can recite pretty much every line in the movie.

What is the one thing you’d like to learn how to do?
Sail. I’m a pretty good power boat captain, but would like to learn to sail someday.
