Staff Electric is proud to announce that the Baird Center Expansion has been recognized as one of The Daily Reporter’s Top Projects. Completed in May 2024, this $57 million expansion added 300,000 square feet to the facility, bringing the total size to 650,000 square feet and transforming the center into a versatile, modern venue for Milwaukee.

This project was a collaborative joint venture between Staff Electric and Pieper Power, delivering all electrical and technological infrastructure for the new addition—including power, lighting, technology, audiovisual (AV), and security systems—while also upgrading fire alarm, technology, and AV systems throughout the existing facility.

By the Numbers:

• 530,000+ feet of conduit installed
• 1.6 million+ feet of electrical building wire deployed
• 1 million+ feet of technology cabling integrated

The scale and complexity of this project required exceptional coordination between contractors, management, and partners. Designed by Eppstein Uhen Architects and tvsdesign, the expansion not only doubled the size of the convention center but also elevated its role as a cultural and economic driver for Milwaukee.

Project Highlights:

• Advanced lighting controls in the ballroom, capable of custom light shows for events.
• Integration of eco-friendly features, including a solar array, bird-friendly glass, stormwater detention systems, and an Orca food digester.
• Economic impact of 2,300 new full-time jobs across Wisconsin, 100,000 additional out-of-state visitors annually, and $100 million in new state income.
• 44.3% of on-site construction labor hours completed by residents from underserved Milwaukee zip codes.

The expansion reflects Milwaukee’s commitment to sustainable urban growth, cultural representation, and economic opportunity. With its enhanced accessibility, flexible event spaces, and community-driven design, the Baird Center stands as both a landmark and a lasting investment in the city’s future.
